Estate Pinot Gris is drawn from Kumeu River’s Pinot Gris vineyards in Kumeu, which consistently produce grapes of sufficient ripeness and quality to make a rich and complex style. Hand‑harvested fruit is whole‑bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in tank over an extended period, then bottled at about 13.3% alcohol with 5.7 g/L acidity and around 10 g/L residual sugar, giving a dry‑ish, textural profile.
Tasting Notes
Aromas show typical peach and stone‑fruit notes tinged with floral perfume, plus white and yellow stone fruits, piquant yellow florals, nutty and honied elements, and a hint of minerals. The medium‑bodied palate is harmoniously layered with ripe white and yellow stone fruits, yellow florals and honeyed nuances, rich and complex yet lively in texture with balanced sweetness and refreshing acidity.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 8–10°C in a medium white‑wine glass; no decanting needed, though a brief open in the glass helps the aromatics build. It pairs well with seafood, pasta, chicken and intensely flavoured or mildly spicy dishes (including chilli with prawns), and is best enjoyed over the next 2–4 years.
