Terroir, History & Acclaim
Critical Recognition:
James Suckling [97] pts
- 97 Points - James Suckling: "The very complex, dark and spicy nose leads into a very concentrated and compact palate with a wonderful velvety texture plus terrific tension. Red Burgundy rarely has this intensity of stony minerality (although it is often suggested that this is common). And this is only just beginning to reveal all its treasures. From a seven-hecatre monopole site. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold."
- The Fabled Monopole: Located in Premeaux-Prissey just south of the Nuits-Saint-Georges town boundary, the Clos des Forêts Saint-Georges is a majestic 7.2-hectare monopole held exclusively by Domaine de l'Arlot. Its unique geological fracture patterns combine classic Lias limestone and pink Premeaux marble, naturally infusing the Pinot Noir with a profound mineral core and a structural definition that equals many grand crus.
- Biodynamic Viticulture & Whole-Cluster Mastery: Managed under meticulous certified biodynamic practices, the estate employs sensitive, low-intervention vinification. Utilizing partial whole-cluster fermentation and gentle punch-downs, the winemaking team coaxes an ethereal, airy perfume from the fruit without sacrificing the deep structural identity of the terroir.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir hand-harvested from old vines within the legendary 1er Cru monopole "Clos des Forêts Saint-Georges".
- Farmed strictly under certified biodynamic viticulture to champion vine health and natural soil purity.
- Aged traditionally for 15–18 months in fine French oak barrels, expertly balancing the naturally succulent 2022 fruit with classical structure.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep, vibrant ruby core with striking magenta reflections.
- Nose: Highly seductive and expansive, bursting with generous aromas of ripe black cherry, warm plum, and boysenberry, intricately laced with notes of crushed peonies, raw cocoa, and a hint of exotic dark spice from the whole-cluster inclusion.
- Palate: Dry, medium-to-full-bodied, and incredibly satisfying. A core of rich, succulent dark fruit floods the mid-palate, displaying the sunny disposition of the 2022 vintage. However, it is brilliantly anchored by powdery, chalky tannins and a spine of vibrant, mouth-watering acidity, leading into a long, resonant, and deeply mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 15–16°C. Keeping it cellar-cool enhances the elegant floral perfumes and keeps the rich 2022 fruit perfectly focused.
- Decanting: While the 2022 vintage is remarkably accessible and fleshy in its youth, a 45-to-60 minute decant is still recommended to allow the complex earthy and spicy elements to open up alongside the fruit. Built to age gorgeously over the next 15+ years.
- Western Pairing: Roasted duck breast with cherry reduction, pan-seared venison medallions, wild mushroom risotto, or slow-braised beef short ribs.
- Asian Pairing: Peking Duck (北京烤鴨), slow-cooked beef brisket in five-spice broth, or premium stir-fried black pepper beef cubes.
