Ethereal, Pure, and Strikingly Elegant

Sourced from the heart of Domaine de l'Arlot's legendary monopole, the 2023 Clos de l'Arlot Rouge captures the exuberant purity and charm of this beautiful vintage. Standing in stark contrast to the appellation's typically rugged style, this cuvée offers a highly perfumed, "Vosne-like" bouquet of crushed raspberries, wild strawberries, and fresh rose petals. Medium-bodied and brilliantly focused, it relies on a fine-boned structure, delivering a sleek, stony finish framed by silky, perfectly integrated tannins and vibrant natural energy.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
James Suckling [93] pts
Jasper Morris [91-94] pts
  • 93 Points - James Suckling: "Fresh and pure aromas of red cherries, citrus peel, ferric earth, dried herbs and cured meat with a reductive edge. The palate is bright and focused, with energetic acidity and a textural mouthfeel, giving vivid flavors of red and blue fruit and a savory edge. Very approachable, with great aging potential. Drink or hold."
  • 91-94 Points ★★★★☆ - Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "A paler colour with an orange tint to the crimson, typical of this vineyard. A fine lively fruit, with blood orange in the background. This is a very classical reading of the terroir, with a long gracious finish and adequate structure. On the airy side for Nuits. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Nov 2024."
  • The Fabled Monopole: Located in Premeaux-Prissey, the Clos de l'Arlot is the domaine's historic namesake monopole. Situated in a former quarry shaped like an amphitheatre, the vines dig into a complex mix of white oolite and Premeaux limestone, naturally imparting a striking mineral tension and a lighter, highly floral signature that stands out from the rest of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
  • Biodynamic Viticulture & Whole-Cluster Mastery: Managed under meticulous certified biodynamic practices, the estate employs sensitive, low-intervention vinification. Utilizing partial whole-cluster fermentation, the winemaking team coaxes an ethereal, airy perfume from the fruit without sacrificing the deep structural identity of the terroir.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir hand-harvested from old vines within the legendary 1er Cru monopole "Clos de l'Arlot".
  • Farmed strictly under certified biodynamic viticulture to champion vine health and natural soil purity.
  • Aged traditionally for 15 months in fine French oak barrels (maximum 45% new), meticulously protecting the delicate 2023 aromatics.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Translucent, bright ruby crimson core with delicate pale margins.
  • Nose: Highly aromatic, pure, and intensely floral, opening with pretty notes of crushed raspberry, wild strawberries, and rose petals, laced with delicate hints of white pepper and a signature crushed-stone minerality.
  • Palate: Bone-dry, medium-bodied, and gracefully tensioned. A pristine entry of pure red fruit glides across the palate, guided by fine, perfectly polished tannins and vibrant, mouth-watering acidity. The finish is sleek, exceptionally elegant, and distinctly stony.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 15–16°C. Maintaining a cooler temperature prevents the delicate, floral perfumes from fading and highlights the wine's vibrant 2023 energy.
  • Decanting: A brief 30-to-45 minute decant is recommended to allow the youthful red fruit and whole-cluster spice to fully unfurl. While its purity makes it approachable in its youth, it is built to evolve beautifully in the cellar through 2036.
  • Western Pairing: Roasted quail, pan-seared duck breast with cherry reduction, veal sweetbreads, or a savory wild mushroom tart.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking Duck (北京烤鴨), delicate soy-braised chicken, or premium stir-fried mixed mushrooms.
