Sourced from 30-35 year-old organically farmed Barbera vines at 300m on calcareous marl soils in Castagnole and Costigliole d'Asti with south/southwest exposure for optimal ripening. Hand-harvested mid-September to early October, fermented in rotofermenters at controlled temperatures, then aged 12 months in second-use French oak barriques followed by 12 months in bottle, yielding a concentrated yet fresh wine at 14% alcohol with low yields emphasizing intensity and balance.
Tasting Notes
Ruby red with purple reflections; intense aromas of blackberry, morello cherry, violet, plum, spices, vanilla, and subtle roast notes. Full-bodied palate delivers juicy dark fruits, chocolate, tobacco hints, ripe blueberry, rosehip, lively acidity, fine-meshed supple tannins, balsamic earthiness, and a fresh, mineral-driven, persistent finish.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 16-18°C in a large red wine glass; decant 30-60 minutes. Drink from 2026-2030+ as complexity develops; pairs with grilled meats, pasta with rich sauces, aged cheeses, or mushroom dishes.
