Aromatic Jasmine Tea, Juniper Spice, and Elegant Premier Cru Finesse

The 2023 Domaine Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" is an exquisitely refined, highly aromatic, and balanced white Burgundy from one of Meursault's most celebrated Premier Cru sites. Harvested early to lock in vibrant acidity, it opens with exotic aromas of jasmine tea, star anise, mineral reduction, and a touch of juniper. The palate is gorgeously textured and caressing, delivering sleek orchard fruit and subtle minerality framed by youthful tension.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
Burghound 90-92 pts
Jasper Morris 92-94 pts
  • 90-92 Points - Burghound (Allen Meadows): A naturally exotic nose freely reveals its aromas of jasmine tea, mineral reduction, star anise and pretty floral wisps. The gorgeously textured, rich and caressing medium weight flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality on the equally dry finish that is youthfully austere. This is fairly tightly wound at present but I suspect that it could be approached after only 4 to 5 years, though it should easily develop and improve for longer.
  • 92-94 Points ★★★★☆ - Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy): A little more yellow in colour, not quite so fresh a nose. This Genevrières has the juniper touch on the palate, more restrained than Charmes, and keeps the tension, plus length in the mouth. One of the earliest to be picked, with Combettes, in order to retain acidity. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Oct 2024.
  • The Aromatic Perfection of Les Genevrières: Named after the wild juniper bushes ("genevriers") that historically grew along its borders, *Les Genevrières* features shallow, iron-rich limestone soils. Widely regarded alongside Perrières as the pinnacle of Meursault Premier Crus, it brings unmatched floral lift, spice complexity, and sleek texture.
  • Domaine Louis Jadot Excellence: Sourced from estate-owned Domaine plots, Jadot's *Les Genevrières* undergoes meticulous vinification under head winemaker Frédéric Barnier, balancing classic barrel aging with large foudres to preserve the site's intense aromatic purity.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay estate-harvested from the iconic Les Genevrières Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault.
  • A radiant 2023 expression offering exotic floral perfume, star anise, and fine limestone precision.
  • Crafted by the historic Maison Louis Jadot, an undisputed benchmark in Burgundy winemaking.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Mid-lemon yellow with brilliant greenish-gold reflections at the rim.
  • Nose: Intensely fragrant, exotic, and complex. It opens with aromas of jasmine tea, star anise, and white peach, accompanied by notes of mineral reduction, lemon-lime, and subtle juniper spice.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and beautifully caressing. The entry delivers a rich wave of sleek orchard fruit that glides into a finely focused mid-palate. Driven by crisp natural acidity, it finishes long, dry, and mineral-accented.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 11–13°C to allow its intricate aromatics and caressing texture to uncoil.
  • Decanting: A 30-to-45 minute decant is recommended if opening early to let the tight aromatic spice and mineral frame open. Cellar-worthy over the next 10 to 15 years.
  • Western Pairing: Pan-seared sea bass, lobster in butter sauce, roasted veal chop with morels, or seared scallops.
  • Asian Pairing: Steamed grouper with ginger and spring onion, Cantonese roast poultry, butter-braised prawns, or mild coconut-based dishes.
