Terroir, History & Acclaim
Critical Recognition:
Burghound 93 pts
Jasper Morris 93-95 pts
- 93 Points - Burghound (Allen Meadows): The elegant nose displays a touch of quinine-character on the aromas of wet stone, acacia, carnation, spice and orange peel. The rich and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel though they quickly tighten up on the mineral-suffused, long and lightly austere finale that is already impressively complex. This is somewhat atypical for a classic Perrières in that it could be reasonably approached after only 5-ish years. No matter, it's lovely and one to consider.
- 93-95 Points ★★★★☆ - Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy): Mid lemon yellow. Plenty of weight on the nose, stones to follow perhaps? Yes indeed, on the palate. A huge wealth here, balanced between the more luscious fruit which stops just short of white peaches, and the mineral energy. Long finish of course. Drink from 2031-2040. Tasted Oct 2024.
- The Royal Terroir of Les Perrières: Universally regarded as the finest Premier Cru in Meursault—and widely considered of Grand Cru quality—*Les Perrières* sits on an old limestone quarry. The shallow, stony soils impart unmatched mineral precision, sea-salty energy, and aristocratic structure to Chardonnay.
- Domaine Louis Jadot Excellence: Sourced from estate-owned Domaine plots, Jadot's *Les Perrières* undergoes meticulous winemaking under Frédéric Barnier, balancing classic barrel aging with larger oak vessels to preserve the vineyard's razor-sharp mineral character.
Highlights
- 100% Chardonnay estate-harvested from the legendary Les Perrières 1er Cru vineyard in Meursault.
- A radiant 2023 release combining generous stone fruit richness with intense limestone minerality.
- Crafted by the historic Maison Louis Jadot, an iconic house in Burgundy winemaking.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Bright, mid-lemon yellow with luminous pale golden reflections.
- Nose: Intensely mineral and aromatic. It opens with notes of crushed wet stone, white peach, acacia blossom, and orange peel, complemented by delicate hazelnut and toasted spice hints.
- Palate: Dry, medium-to-full-bodied, and beautifully proportioned. The entry brings a rich, almost lush wave of orchard fruit sap before the stony limestone energy takes over, driving into a crisp, tense, and exceptionally long, saline finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 11–13°C to allow its rich texture and complex aromatics to open fully.
- Decanting: A 30-to-45 minute decant is recommended if opening early to let the tight mineral structure soften. Cellar-worthy over the next 10 to 15+ years.
- Western Pairing: Pan-seared turbot, lobster Thermidor, roast veal chops in cream sauce, or seared sea scallops with lemon butter.
- Asian Pairing: Steamed grouper with ginger and scallions, butter-braised king prawns, or Cantonese roast poultry.
