Produced by Masi in the historic Campolongo di Torbe vineyard within the Valpolicella Classico zone of Veneto, Italy, the 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is crafted from a blend of Corvina (70%), Rondinella (25%), and Molinara (5%), sourced from the estate's 8-hectare pergola-trained site at approximately 400 meters elevation. This pioneering single-vineyard cru, identified by Masi in 1958 as a superior terroir, features deep, porous volcanic soils that impart distinctive minerality and structure. Grapes undergo the traditional appassimento process, drying for up to four months on bamboo racks to concentrate flavors, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aging for three years in large Slavonian oak botte (2,500-5,000 liters) to preserve elegance and integrate tannins. This method underscores Masi's commitment to sustainable practices and the revival of ancient winemaking techniques, yielding a wine of profound depth and balance reflective of the 2015 vintage's richness.

Tasting Notes

This Amarone displays an impenetrable deep ruby hue with aromas of baked plums, dried cherries, cinnamon, and cloves, accented by hints of coffee, almond, and volcanic earth. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, offering concentrated flavors of raisin, dark chocolate, and blackberry preserve, supported by firm yet silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, persistent finish with savory mineral undertones.

Awards and Accolades

The 2015 Campolongo di Torbe Amarone earned 95 points from James Suckling, who highlighted its incredible extract, curvaceous tannins, and impressive structure with notes of bitter orange chocolate and lingering sweetness.

Serving and Cellaring

Serve at 18°C after two hours of decanting to reveal its full aromatic complexity. Enjoy now for its opulent maturity or cellar until 2040 to develop further layers of leather, tobacco, and tertiary spice. A benchmark in Valpolicella's cru expressions.
