Parent Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots 2019 is a fragrant, structured Pommard showing red and black fruits, floral lift and earthy complexity, framed by firm but refined tannins. From a warm, accessible vintage, it combines generosity and concentration with classic Pommard muscle and a savory, long finish.

From Domaine Parent’s organically and biodynamically farmed old vines (around 26–53 years) on clay‑limestone soils in Les Epenots, the 2019 was made with around 50% whole bunches in this warm year. After careful sorting, cold soak and 18–20 days total cuvaison with punch‑downs and pump‑overs, it was aged 16–18 months in French oak, 30–50% new, to emphasize the cru’s power–finesse balance rather than overt woodiness.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Fragrant and quite floral with wilted rose petals, red berries, hints of sage and damp earth/loam; notes of red and black fruits, chocolate, truffle and cured meat appear with air.

  • Palate: Fleshy and generous first impression with melted, pleasant tannins, intense red and black fruit, subtle truffle and savory tones.

  • Finish: Harmonious, persistent finish showing earth, savory nuance and warm vintage richness without heaviness.

Awards and Accolades
Greg Sherwood MW (Wine Safari) rated 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots 94+/100, describing it as “very easy to taste” in this warm year, with red and black fruits, chocolate, earth, cured meats and subtle truffle wrapped in creamy, generous concentration yet tightening with air. (No other specific published critic scores for 2019 were found; others reference the cuvée more generally.)

Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy bowl; decant 1–2 hours in youth to unfurl florals and reduce any reduction. This 2019 should drink well now for its openness but will benefit from medium‑term cellaring, with an ideal window approximately 2025–2038 depending on desired tertiary development.
