Terroir & Estate Craft
- Wilyabrup Terroir (Margaret River): Sourced from Pierro’s estate vineyards in the renowned Wilyabrup sub-region. The maritime climate, heavily influenced by the nearby Indian Ocean, combines with ancient lateritic gravel over clay soils to produce Bordeaux varietals of immense pedigree, perfumed lift, and fine, dusty tannins.
- The "L.T.Cf." Philosophy: A signature cuvée by Dr. Mike Peterkin, blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a "Little Touch of Cabernet Franc" (and often a dash of Petit Verdot). The Cabernet Franc provides an aromatic lift of violets and tobacco leaf, weaving seamlessly with the structured Cabernet Sauvignon and the plush mid-palate of the Merlot. Matured carefully in French oak barriques for harmonious integration.
Highlights
- A classic Margaret River blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc (L.T.Cf.).
- The cooler 2017 vintage offers exceptional aromatic elegance, red fruit purity, and lithe structure.
- Crafted by pioneering estate Pierro, drinking beautifully now but capable of evolving through 2032+.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep, vibrant ruby with a touch of garnet at the rim.
- Nose: Intensely aromatic and layered. Opens with classic Margaret River notes of blackcurrant, red plum, and crushed violets, mingled with bay leaf, tobacco, graphite, and toasted cedar spice.
- Palate: Dry, medium-to-full-bodied, and elegantly structured. A core of juicy dark berries and red currant flows gracefully across the palate, guided by fine, dusty tannins and fresh maritime acidity, leading to a long, savory, and seamless finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 16–18°C to allow its Bordeaux-blend complexities and elegant red fruits to open up beautifully.
- Decanting: A 30-to-45 minute decant is recommended to soften the tannins and release its full aromatic spectrum.
- Western Pairing: Herb-crusted rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, roasted duck breast with cherry jus, or aged cheddar cheese.
- Asian Pairing: Black pepper beef stir-fry, braised lamb claypot, Korean Galbi (marinated short ribs), or roasted Peking duck.
