From Giuseppe Quintarelli in Italy’s Valpolicella Classico zone of Veneto, the Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2017 is a refined blend of 55% Corvina/Corvinone, 30% Rondinella, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon/Franc, Nebbiolo, Croatina, and Sangiovese, sourced from hillside vineyards on calcareous-basalt soils that impart depth and vibrancy. Hand-harvested grapes from the warm 2017 vintage undergo brief appassimento drying for concentration, leaning toward Ripasso style, followed by fermentation and 5-6 years' aging in large Slavonian oak casks for seamless integration. As an iconic expression from the legendary Quintarelli estate, this production yields a deep ruby wine with remarkable balance and aging potential.

Tasting Notes A full-bodied Valpolicella Superiore with aromas of red cherries, restrained black pepper, graphite, and flowers, tingling acidity, warming alcohol, firm chalky-yet-ripe tannins that are just a bit tight at the end, and a good toasty finish. Exuberant fruit balanced by structure, with dark cherry, plum, raspberry, spice, leather, and earthy notes adding layers.

Awards and Accolades The 2017 Valpolicella Classico Superiore earned 94 points from James Suckling for its exuberant fruit and balanced structure.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 45-60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted meats, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2035, developing greater savory and earthy depth over time.
