From Giuseppe Quintarelli in Italy’s Veneto, the Alzero Cabernet 2001 is a refined appassimento-styled red primarily from Cabernet Franc (often labeled as such in older vintages) blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, sourced from hillside vineyards on calcareous-basalt soils in Negrar. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2001 vintage undergo extended drying for concentration, similar to Amarone methods, followed by fermentation and prolonged aging in French barriques and Slavonian oak casks for seamless integration and depth. As one of the legendary estate's rare international-varietal expressions, this production yields a deep garnet wine with glycerol richness and extraordinary longevity.

Tasting Notes A majestic appassimento-dried Cabernet that bursts with white truffles, mocha, spices, incense, grilled herbs, plums, and black cherries, supported by firm tannins framing a striking, beautifully delineated structure. Sweet floral and spiced notes resonate on the vibrant, textured finish, evolving toward mahogany tones of morello cherries, leather, fresh tobacco, figs, black tea, cocoa powder, and subtle vegetal parsley shades in mature bottles.

Awards and Accolades The 2001 Alzero earned 95 points from Antonio Galloni (Vinous) for its magnificent potential and vibrant finish, with community averages of 95.1 points on CellarTracker praising its intensity and balance.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted game, truffle-infused dishes, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2035, at peak maturity with profound tertiary complexities.
