From Domaine François Raveneau in France’s Chablis, the Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2009 is a refined 100% Chardonnay sourced from the Valmur Grand Cru vineyard, a 0.8-hectare parcel on Kimmeridgian limestone soils that impart exceptional minerality and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2009 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo whole-cluster pressing, fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, and aging in used oak feuillettes (small barrels) for 12-18 months on lees to enhance texture and purity. As a family estate with tiny production emphasizing minimal intervention, this yields a golden wine with remarkable depth and evolution.

Tasting Notes A profound, intense Chablis Grand Cru with piercing mineral tension, smoky flint, oyster shell, and hints of petrol and white flowers, offering a dense, concentrated palate of ripe stone fruit, lemon pith, and a long, saline, chalk-driven finish. The nose reveals smoky flint, oyster shell, and hints of petrol and white flowers. On the palate, it is full-bodied and poised, with crystalline acidity, layered texture, and flavors of ripe peach, citrus pith, and chalky minerality, leading to a long, saline finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2009 Valmur earned 94 points from Antonio Galloni (Vinous) for its piercing minerality and dense concentration, and high praise from Burghound (Allen Meadows) for its classic Chablisien typicity and vibrant tension.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 10-12°C with 30-45 minutes of chilling to accentuate aromas. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with oysters, grilled fish, or goat cheese. Enjoy now through 2040, during which it will develop enhanced nutty and honeyed nuances.
