Richard Kershaw Deconstructed Chardonnay Kogelberg Ironstone CY548 2021 is a tightly structured, mineral-driven Elgin Chardonnay with white stone fruit, citrus, struck flint, and a vivid saline edge. It is one of Kershaw’s site-and-clone bottlings, showing more austerity and ageworthy tension than a broad, plush style.

The wine comes from Kogelberg Ironstone in Elgin and is made from the CY548 clone, which Kershaw links to Corton-Charlemagne cuttings. The estate says the 2021 was vinified in 228L French oak with 100% new oak, and the site gives the wine a firm, stony, robust profile with concentrated fruit and precise acidity.

Tasting Notes

Expect lemon blossom, white flowers, struck stone, petrichor, white peach, citrus peel, lemongrass, clementine, and a pulverized-stone texture. The palate is full and concentrated, with austere drive, saline freshness, and a long, intense finish.

Serving and Cellaring

Serve at 10-12°C. Best with rich seafood, roast poultry, or creamy dishes, and it should cellar well for several years because of its structure and acidity.
