From Roccolo Grassi in Italy’s Valpolicella zone of Veneto, the Amarone della Valpolicella 2017 is a refined blend typically dominated by Corvina (around 60%) with Corvinone, Rondinella, and Croatina, sourced from a four-hectare southeast-facing vineyard on volcanic-basaltic soils at 200-250 meters elevation that impart intensity and elegance. Hand-harvested grapes from the warm 2017 vintage undergo extended appassimento drying to concentrate flavors, followed by fermentation and 24 months' aging in French oak barriques (partially new) to balance power and finesse. This boutique family estate, established in 1996 by Bruno Sartori and now run by his children Marco and Francesca, yields a deep ruby wine with remarkable freshness and depth.

Tasting Notes A remarkably fresh and perfumed Amarone that dazzles with spiced citrus rinds and dusty cherries complemented by violet and lavender nuances, turning seamlessly silky and enveloping with a core of mineral-tinged acidity invigorating depths of dark red fruit and exotic spice. Rich and multilayered with ripe dark berry raisined fruits, dark chocolate, toasted oak, minerals, flowers, and blueberries, full-bodied with chewy tannins yet modern and racy.

Awards and Accolades The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella earned 96 points from Vinous (Eric Guido) for its remarkably fresh and perfumed bouquet and total elegance on the palate.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted game, braised meats, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2040, developing greater savory and balsamic complexities over time.
