Expert Tasting Notes & Estate Reputation
- 94 Points – James Suckling: "Already on the nose this has a terrific interplay of stone fruit and herbal freshness with a tantalizing touch of spices. You feel the power and concentration of Alsace dry riesling from a warm, dry vintage, but also a wonderful citrusy freshness. A delicate chalky minerality echoes through the very long finish. 100% from estate vineyards in Ribeauville and Bergheim. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."
- 93 Points – Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Riesling Réserve is from top vineyards in Ribeauvillé and Bergheim that haven't been sourced for the grands crus but are partly seriously old. Bottled in April 2023 and already released, the wine displays a clear and refined, intense and elegant bouquet of fully ripe and spicy fruits but also remarkably floral talents. The wine is lush and intense on the refined and elegant palate, provided with some Muscat-like aromas, ripe, saline acidity and very fine tannins. The finish is harmonious, fruit-intense and backed up by a serious mineral structure. Superb. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024."
- The Keepers of the Dry Tradition: Established in 1626, Maison Trimbach is one of the most venerable and globally revered dynasties in Alsace winemaking history. For over thirteen generations, the family has maintained a strict, unyielding philosophy: wines must be bone-dry, structurally pristine, and perfectly balanced with food. By sourcing from older vineyards on the multi-faceted limestone-and-marl terraces surrounding their home in Ribeauvillé, Trimbach crafts a Réserve of tremendous focus, gastric energy, and long-term cellar longevity.
Highlights
- 100% Riesling premium selection, drawing fruit from select old-vine parcels in the historic villages of Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, and Hunawihr.
- Vines are rooted in a premium, highly complex geological tapestry of limestone, marl, and calcium-rich Muschelkalk soils.
- Fermented in temperature-regulated stainless steel and old neutral wood foudres, followed by several years of undisturbed bottle cellaring in the estate's historic labyrinths.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Bright pale straw-yellow with star-bright crystalline platinum reflections.
- Nose: Piercingly fresh, architectural, and complex, opening with aromas of crunchy green apple, lemon pastille, and grapefruit pith, layered with wild lemongrass, white blossoms, and a deep hint of wet slate minerality.
- Palate: Proudly bone-dry, medium-bodied, and highly linear. Pure, vibrant waves of lime juice and fresh white nectarine wash over the tongue, instantly driven by a high-velocity, chiseled line of native acidity. The mid-palate carries a svelte, stony focus before resolving into a long, beautifully crisp finish defined by saline minerals and citrus oil.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve chilled at 9–11°C. Avoid serving it ice-cold, which clamps down on its deep limestone complexities and perfumed citrus aromatics.
- Decanting: Not strictly required, though a brief 10 minutes to breathe allows its intense mineral focus to stretch and broaden beautifully. Ready for immediate gastro-pleasure, with the precision to cellar easily through 2032–2035.
- Western Pairing: Fresh choucroute garnie, pan-seared trout with almonds, goat cheese terrines, or fresh oysters.
- Asian Pairing: 潮州凍蟹 (Chiu Chow Cold Crab), 蒜蓉粉絲蒸大扇貝 (Steamed Scallops with Garlic and Glass Noodles), or light Hamachi sashimi.
