Ripe Blackberries, Wild Herbs, Sweet Spice, and Helan Mountain Harmony

The 2020 Xige Estate "Jade Dove" Red Blend is an inviting, characterful Chinese red from Ningxia’s Helan Mountain East Foothills. Blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Gernischt, it delivers aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, cracked peppercorn, and subtle sweet spice. Medium-to-full-bodied and supple, it wraps juicy dark fruit around fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity, finishing clean, savory, and refreshingly persistent.

Highlights

  • Signature Ningxia blend combining structured Cabernet Sauvignon with aromatic, spicy Cabernet Gernischt (Carmenère) from 20-year-old vines.
  • Sourced from the Dove Mountain (Gezi Shan) zone in the Helan Mountain East Foothills, grown at 1,100 meters elevation on stony, gravel-sand soils.
  • Semi-arid high-altitude climate with intense UV radiation and wide diurnal shifts ensures ripe fruit flavors and gentle, rounded tannins without losing fresh balance.
  • Matured for 10–12 months in French oak barrels to soften texture while allowing vibrant dark fruit and herbal spice to remain forward.
  • From the warm, expressive 2020 Ningxia vintage; open, approachable, and prime for drinking now through 2030+.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby-red with purple highlights, it opens with bright, inviting aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, and plums, complemented by notes of crushed black pepper, wild thyme, subtle cedar, and cocoa. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, supple, and harmonious, carrying juicy dark fruit across fine-grained, velvety tannins and balanced acidity, concluding on a clean, savory, and delicately spiced finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 16–18°C in standard Bordeaux glassware.
  • Decanting: Decant for 20 to 30 minutes before serving to let its fruit and subtle oak spice open up. Best enjoyed now through 2030+.
