Collection: Black Stallion

History
Black Stallion Estate Winery, located in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District, was established in 2007 on a 32-acre former equestrian center, the Silverado Horseman's Center, built in the 1950s. Initially a virtual winery with its first release in 2002, it was founded by brothers Terrance and Michael Maglich. In 2010, the Indelicato family, owners of Delicato Family Wines since 1924, acquired the estate. The winery, built within the former indoor riding arena, retains remnants of horse stalls, honoring its equestrian heritage. Named Wine Enthusiast's 2023 American Winery of the Year, it reflects a century-long family legacy of winemaking.

Viticulture Philosophy
The winery manages 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Gaspare Vineyard, named after patriarch Gaspare Indelicato, with additional acreage planted later. Grapes are also sourced from prestigious Napa Valley and select Sonoma County vineyards, emphasizing terroir diversity. Black Stallion prioritizes sustainability, with 1,000 solar panels installed in 2017 and eco-friendly practices, earning recognition for environmental stewardship. Vineyards leverage Oak Knoll's cooler climate and varied soils to produce balanced, expressive grapes.>

Winemaking Techniques
Led by winemaker Ralf Holdenried, Black Stallion crafts small-lot wines, focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermented separately, and blended to achieve balance and complexity. Reds, like the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, age in French and American oak for a full-bodied, approachable style with velvety tannins. Whites, such as Chardonnay, emphasize fruit purity with minimal oak influence. Techniques combine traditional methods, like hand-sorting, with modern technology for rich, elegant wines.
