Livio Felluga

History
Livio Felluga traces its winemaking roots to five generations in Istria, producing Refosco and Malvasia under Austro-Hungarian rule, before Livio Felluga relocated to Friuli in the late 1930s-1950s amid post-war upheaval. He founded the winery in 1956 in Brazzano di Cormòns, acquiring iconic vineyards in Rosazzo near the ancient Benedictine Abbey, pioneering single-varietal bottlings like Pinot Grigio when blends dominated. Today, the fourth-generation estate spans 155 hectares across Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli, safeguarding Friuli's white wine renaissance under family leadership.

Viticulture Philosophy
Ponca soils (marl-sandstone layers) on Alpine-protected, Adriatic-influenced hills drive dense plantings of Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco, Ribolla Gialla, and reds like Pignolo and Refosco, with low yields capturing freshness and minerality. Sustainable practices honor the land's heritage, from restored old vines around Rosazzo Abbey to precise site selection for aromatic complexity.

Winemaking Techniques
Gentle pressing and temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation preserve aromatics in whites; Terre Alte blend (Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc) ages partially in oak for prestige; reds see extended maceration and barrique refinement for structure. Minimal intervention yields refined, age-worthy wines blending Friuli's fruit purity with texture.

Critics and Journalist Praises
Livio Felluga anchors Friuli's white wine prestige, with Terre Alte hailed as one of Italy's finest blends for elegance and longevity; Pinot Grigio lauded as a global benchmark for varietal focus. Critics celebrate the estate's refined, fruity whites and structured reds as Friuli pioneers.
