(Wine Advocate Score 91) The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is a terrific example of the year. Medium in body, and graceful, the 2008 is laced with an attractive mosaic of dark red cherries, savory herbs, licorice, flowers in tobacco. Naturally, the 2008 doesn?Ä?t deliver the explosiveness or head-spinning appeal of the 2006 or 2007, but it will give Salvioni fans a fix while those iconic vintages age. An expressive, layered finish rounds things out nicely.

Along with Soldera and Biondi-Santi, Salvioni / La Cerbaiola is considered by many as one of the top three Brunello producers. La Cerbaiola was started in 1985 by Giulio Salvioni with the assistance by Attilio Pagli. Before joining La Cerbaiola, Attilio Pagli in Soldera under the mentorship from Giulio Gambelli. It is therefore not surprising to find La Cerbaiola?Ä?s Brunello resembles the style of Soldera offering great concentration, intensity and elegance. Annual production is extremely low at merely 15,000 bottles a year.
