Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura Riserva 2011

Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura Riserva 2011

From the prestigious Castello Banfi estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, the Poggio alle Mura Riserva 2011 is a distinguished red showcasing Sangiovese’s depth. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese clones from vineyards around Poggio alle Mura castle on sandy, calcareous soils, it’s fermented in hybrid stainless steel and wood tanks. Aged for five years, including two in French oak (90% barriques, 10% casks), it offers a deep garnet hue and sophisticated complexity.

Winemaking Process

Banfi’s innovative approach shines in this wine. The 2011 vintage undergoes a 12–14-day maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation (27–29°C). Two years in French oak (90% barriques, 10% large casks) and further bottle aging create a balanced Riserva with long aging potential, reflecting Banfi’s clonal research begun in the 1980s for optimal Sangiovese expression.
