From Baricci in Italy’s Montalcino, the Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2022 is a refined 100% Sangiovese sourced from estate vineyards on clay-limestone soils in the eastern zone, where higher elevation imparts freshness and elegance. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2022 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 12 months' aging in large Slavonian oak casks to preserve fruit purity and enhance structure. As a family estate since 1955, this production yields a ruby red wine with garnet edges and approachable intensity.

Tasting Notes An elegant, vibrant red with fresh red fruit and subtle earthy spice, reflecting Montalcino’s clay-limestone terroir. The nose reveals cherry, raspberry, violet, and hints of licorice and forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of juicy red berries, mineral earthiness, and a touch of spice, leading to a long, graceful finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino earned 91 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "I am a big fan of the Baricci house style that always prizes elegance and lighter shades of Sangiovese. The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Montosoli is a good example of this. The Montosoli location of this estate defines this informal red that leans into dusty mineral notes. These frame a core of ruby cherry and pressed violet. I'd add this to my shortlist of favorite Rossos from this vintage. Production is 16,000 bottles."

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 30-45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with roasted poultry, pasta with tomato sauce, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2032, developing greater earthy and silky nuances over time.
