Wild Raspberries, Crushed Herbs, Earthy Clay, and Terracotta-Aged Ribera Purity

The 2022 Bendito Destino "Amphora" is an extraordinary, low-intervention, and soulfully raw red wine crafted from ancient, field-blended vines in Peñafiel (Ribera del Duero). Winemaker Terry Kandyna fermented and aged this cuvée entirely in traditional clay amphorae (tinajas), completely avoiding oak influence to highlight pure, unadorned high-altitude terroir. Soaring aromas of wild raspberries, sour red cherries, crushed rose petals, dried thyme, and damp terracotta clay lead into a medium-bodied, crystalline palate framed by chalky, fine-grained tannins and an energetic, limestone-driven finish.

Terroir & Winemaking Craft

  • Ancient Field-Blended Terroir: Sourced from century-old, dry-farmed bush vines around Peñafiel in Ribera del Duero. Predominantly Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) co-planted alongside small portions of Albillo Mayor and Garnacha, grown on limestone and sandy clay soils at high altitudes.
  • Earthy Terracotta Maturation: Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged exclusively in clay amphorae (*tinajas*). The slight micro-oxygenation of porous clay softens the tannins without imparting oak flavors or vanilla sweetness, leaving an unblemished, mineral-focused expression of pure mountain fruit.

Highlights

  • Field blend of old-vine Tinto Fino with white Albillo Mayor and Garnacha from Peñafiel, Ribera del Duero.
  • A radiant 2022 release packed with wild raspberries, sour cherries, dried thyme, wild rose, and terracotta minerality.
  • Crafted by Terry Kandyna (Bendito Destino) without oak, offering 5 to 10+ years of cellar evolution.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright, translucent ruby-garnet with brilliant pink reflections.
  • Nose: Ethereal, fragrant, and earthy. It opens with aromas of wild raspberries, sour red cherries, and pomegranates, accompanied by crushed rose petals, dried thyme, orange peel, and damp clay clay-pot minerality.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and linear. The entry brings a pure wave of tart red fruit sap that flows across a chalky mid-palate, held together by fine-grained tannins and energetic acidity into a clean, mineral finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 14–16°C to highlight its crisp red fruit purity and earthy clay aromatics.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute aeration helps open its fresh layers. Best enjoyed now through 2032+.
  • Western Pairing: Pan-seared duck breast, roasted pork loin, grilled lamb chops, or wild mushroom tart.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck, Soy-sauce chicken, Taiwanese braised pork belly, or Cantonese roast goose.
