Crunchy Red Cherries, Wild Cranberries, Peppery Spice, and Classical Maranges Tension

The 2021 Domaine Bertrand Bachelet Maranges Rouge is a vibrant, classically sculpted Pinot Noir from the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune. Sourced from hillside limestone parcels, it displays fresh aromas of crunchy red cherries, wild cranberries, forest earth, and cracked white pepper. Medium-bodied and linear, it pairs bright red fruit with fine-grained tannins and mouth-watering limestone acidity, finishing clean, savory, and pure.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from village-level parcels located in the commune of Dezize-lès-Maranges in the southern reaches of the Côte de Beaune.
  • Planted on stony Jurassic limestone and marl soils with favorable south and south-east exposures, promoting pristine natural drainage and aromatic tension.
  • Produced by Bertrand Bachelet, fourth-generation vigneron based directly in Maranges, known for precision, purity, and low-intervention viticulture.
  • Matured for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels (around 20% new oak) followed by stainless steel settling prior to bottling to polish tannins while retaining crunchy primary fruit.
  • From the cool, classically proportioned 2021 Burgundy harvest; built with crystalline focus, mineral lift, and drinking gracefully through 2029+.

Tasting Notes

Bright, translucent ruby-red with brilliant violet reflections, it opens with pure, fragrant aromas of crunchy red cherries, wild cranberries, and raspberries, layered with forest floor, dried rose petals, and a dusting of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, linear, and tensile, carrying bright red fruit across a bed of fine-grained, chiseled tannins and mouth-watering limestone acidity, concluding on a clean, savory, and persistent mineral-driven finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 14–16°C in standard Burgundy or Pinot Noir stemware.
  • Decanting: Best served with 15 to 25 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass to allow its red fruit perfume and subtle spice to blossom. Peak drinking window now through 2029+.
