Critical Recognition
- 94 Points - James Suckling: The nose shows minerals, lemons and white fruit. Medium-bodied, textural and almost dense. Very good intensity, with a long, lightly saline finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold.
Highlights
- 100% Chardonnay harvested from "Les Reisses," an officially recognized Premier Cru climat located on east-facing slopes in the commune of Fuissé.
- Sourced from venerable old vines (averaging 50 to 70+ years of age) planted on fossil-rich Jurassic limestone and clay soils that produce exceptional concentration and aromatic depth.
- Produced by Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Philippe Bret (Bret Brothers / Domaine de la Soufrandière), leading biodynamic pioneers celebrated for their terroir-driven precision in the Mâconnais.
- Hand-harvested, whole-cluster pressed, fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, and matured for 11 to 12 months in seasoned neutral oak barrels without new wood masking or fining.
- From the balanced, classical 2024 vintage; shows outstanding immediate focus and Premier Cru energy with cellaring potential through 2034+.
Tasting Notes
Bright, shimmering pale gold with vivid green highlights, it opens with pure aromas of ripe white peaches, yellow orchard apples, and Meyer lemon, intertwined with acacia blossom, crushed chalk, and a delicate touch of raw almond. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and textural, carrying concentrated stone and orchard fruit across an energetic spine of limestone acidity, concluding on a clean, lingering, and mouth-watering saline mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 11–13°C in standard white Burgundy stemware.
- Decanting: Decant for 15 to 25 minutes prior to serving to allow its dense old-vine core and floral mineral complexity to expand; pairs magnificently with seared scallops, grilled lobster, poached turbot in butter sauce, or mature Comté. Optimal drinking window now through 2034+.
