Ripe Red Currants, Crushed Roses, and Benchmark Falletto Terroir Power

The 2019 Casa Vinicola Bruno Giacosa Barolo "Falletto" is a monumental, deeply structured, and aristocratic Nebbiolo from one of Serralunga d’Alba's most legendary estate vineyards. Sourced from south-facing steep amphitheater slopes, this benchmark bottling captures the classic power, dark fruit density, and cool-vintage precision of 2019. Soaring aromas of wild red berries, dark cherries, crushed rose petals, blood orange zest, and dried oregano lead into a full-bodied, satiny palate framed by muscular, chiseled tannins and an endlessly long, mineral-driven finish.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
James Suckling 98 pts
  • 98 Points - James Suckling: Lovely aromas of strawberries, plums, and berries. Bark and mushrooms. Complex and aromatic. Medium to full body with super fine tannins that are supple and gorgeous. Lovely length. So attractive now. Leave it for four or five years. Better after 2027.
  • The Sovereign Falletto Terroir: Located in Serralunga d’Alba, Falletto is a south-facing amphitheater with iron-rich calcareous clay soils. This iconic vineyard confers unmatched power, deep structure, and longevity to Nebbiolo, giving the wine its signature muscular backbone and mineral intensity.
  • Classic Giacosa Tradition: Fermented in stainless steel and aged slowly in large neutral French oak casks (*botte grande*), Bruno Giacosa's traditional winemaking lets the pristine fruit purity and legendary Serralunga terroir shine through without heavy oak influence.

Highlights

  • 100% Nebbiolo harvested from the famous Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba.
  • A radiant 2019 vintage packed with wild red berries, dark cherries, crushed rose petals, blood orange zest, and chalky minerality.
  • Crafted by Casa Vinicola Bruno Giacosa, offering 20 to 40+ years of majestic cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Translucent, glowing garnet-ruby with delicate brick reflections at the rim.
  • Nose: Soaring, complex, and intensely perfumed. It opens with aromas of wild raspberries, red cherries, and pomegranate, accompanied by crushed rose petals, blood orange peel, dried oregano, and crushed stone.
  • Palate: Dry, full-bodied, and structured. The entry brings a rich wave of dark red fruit sap that glides across a muscular mid-palate, held in check by chiseled, fine-grained tannins and vibrant limestone acidity into a long, majestic finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 16–18°C in large Nebbiolo glasses to allow its complex aromatics to uncoil.
  • Decanting: A generous 1-to-2 hour decant is strongly recommended if opening young. Cellar-worthy through 2055+.
  • Western Pairing: Slow-braised beef short ribs, roasted rack of lamb, tajarin pasta with white truffles, or aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck, Taiwanese braised pork belly (Lu Rou Fan), charcoal-grilled wagyu beef, or roast goose.
