From Château Clos L'Église in France's Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank, the 2016 is a refined blend dominated by Merlot with Cabernet Franc, sourced from 6 hectares of clay-gravel and limestone soils in the heart of the plateau that impart plushness and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the excellent 2016 vintage—characterized by warm, dry conditions yielding concentrated yet balanced fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 18-24 months' aging in French oak barrels to enhance integration and finesse. Owned by the Audouze family since 1997, this historic estate yields a deep ruby wine with garnet edges and profound harmony.

Tasting Notes A beautiful, silky-fine Pomerol with dark red and black fruits, crisp tannins, and refined mineral cut, offering plush, velvety layers and a firm structure that promises long evolution. The nose reveals ripe plums, mulberries, and hints of spice and oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet poised, with velvety tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of dark cherry, licorice, and graphite minerality, leading to a long, silky finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2016 Château Clos L'Église earned 95 points from James Suckling for its silky texture and firm structure, 93-95 from Wine Advocate for its beautiful Pomerol character and velvety mouthfeel, and 93 from Neal Martin (Vinous) for its composed refinement and promising evolution.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted lamb, game, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2040, developing greater leather and earthy nuances over time.
