From Château La Gaffelière in Bordeaux's Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé on the Right Bank, the 2022 is a refined blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc sourced from 22 hectares of limestone plateau and clay-limestone hillside vineyards that impart finesse and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the exceptional 2022 vintage—characterized by warm days and cool nights yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 19 months' aging in French oak barrels (50% new) to enhance integration and elegance. Owned by the Malet Roquefort family since 1705 and withdrawn from the classification in 2022, this production yields a deep ruby wine with garnet edges and profound harmony.

Tasting Notes A vibrant, medium-bodied Saint-Émilion from Bordeaux's Right Bank with crunchy red berries, orange peel, and bitter citrus notes, delivering a chalky freshness and limestone grip on the finish. The nose reveals raspberries, orange peel, and hints of bitter citrus, rose petal, and spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and poised, with creamy tannins, balanced acidity, and flavors of black raspberries, lavender, and charcoal, leading to a long, vibrant finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2022 Château La Gaffelière earned 97-98 points from James Suckling for its vibrant polish and medium-bodied vibrancy, 94-96 from Wine Advocate for its evocative scents of lilacs and cherries, and 94 from Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux) for its chalky freshness and limestone fingerprint.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted lamb, game, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2042, developing greater leather and earthy nuances over time.
