(Wine Advocate Score 91-93) Composed of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Simard is a little closed, reduced and tarry to begin, giving way to crushed black cherries, fresh blackberries and warm plums with hints of woodsmoke, garrigue and chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is charged with compelling energy, framed by fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing long with plenty of bright, crunchy fruit.
