Wild Strawberries, Crushed River Stones, Rose Petals, and Ungrafted Patagonian Tension

The 2025 Bodega Chacra "Cincuenta y Cinco" is a crystalline, biodynamic Pinot Noir crafted by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta in Rio Negro, Patagonia. Harvested from ungrafted vines planted in 1955, it opens with pure aromas of wild strawberries, cranberries, dried rose petals, and chalky earth. Medium-bodied and ethereal, it balances transparent red fruit with ultra-fine, tension-filled tannins and vibrant natural freshness, finishing with exceptional mineral length.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
James Suckling 96 pts
  • 96 Points - James Suckling: Strawberry, spice, nutmeg and orange peel aromas follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and underlying salinity. Crunchy, tight and classy. Only 11.8% alcohol. Drink now.
  • The 1955 Ungrafted Rio Negro Terroir: Sourced from a single vineyard planted on its own roots in 1955 (*Cincuenta y Cinco*) in the Mainqué district of the Río Negro Valley. The terroir consists of ancient alluvial river terraces covered with pebbles, limestone-coated gravels, and sandy clay, cooled by fierce Patagonian winds and bathed in pristine, high-luminosity desert sunshine.
  • Piero Incisa della Rocchetta’s Biodynamic Craft: Founded in 2004 by the grandson of Sassicaia’s creator, Bodega Chacra is managed under strict organic and biodynamic principles. Fermented with whole clusters and ambient yeasts in small cement vats without sulfur addition at crush, the wine is matured primarily in unlined concrete tanks and seasoned neutral oak, emphasizing transparent purity and pure terroir drive.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir harvested from ungrafted vines planted in 1955 in Patagonia's Río Negro Valley.
  • Farmed strictly biodynamically and vinified with whole clusters in concrete and neutral oak.
  • A vibrant, crystalline 2025 release; prime drinking window 2026 through 2038+.

Tasting Notes

Bright, translucent ruby in color, it opens with pure, high-toned aromas of wild strawberries, tart cherries, and cranberries, interwoven with dried rose petals, blood orange peel, tea leaf, and crushed river stones. The palate is medium-bodied, lacy, and vibrant, presenting crunchy red fruit framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins and energetic natural acidity, culminating in a long, tensile, and mouth-watering mineral finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 14–16°C in wide Burgundy stems.
  • Decanting: A short 20-to-30 minute aeration in the glass allows its delicate floral perfume and chalky tension to expand. Best enjoyed from 2026 through 2038+.
