Clos du Château is the historic 1.5 ha monopole of Château de la Maltroye, a walled vineyard planted to both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay adjacent to La Maltroie 1er Cru, with clay-limestone soils on gentle slopes. Hand-harvested grapes from 40+ year-old vines undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration, traditional fermentation, and 14 months aging in French oak barrels (moderate new oak proportion), producing balanced Côte de Beaune reds at 13.5% alcohol known for finesse rather than power.
Tasting Notes
Mid ruby hue; aromatically restrained yet elegant nose of red cherry, plum, and pretty floral wisps. Medium-bodied palate with excellent volume, detailed flavors, caressing texture, moderate density, vibrant energy, and a youthfully austere finish showing bitter pit fruit tinged with saline minerality.
