Sourced from village-level vineyards around the Château de la Maltroye (acquired 1940, revitalized by Jean-Pierre Cournut since 1993), featuring clay-limestone soils typical of Chassagne. Hand-harvested Pinot Noir undergoes extended extraction (25-28 days vs. 17-19 days prior vintages), fermentation in stainless tanks, and oak aging, producing balanced reds at 13.5% alcohol bottled in historic 15th-century cellars from the generous 2022 harvest.
Tasting Notes
Peppery, earthy nose with both red and dark berries; deliciously lively flavors with beautiful structure, caressing mouthfeel contrasting light rustic and warm finish. Other notes highlight floral-suffused aromas of white orchard fruit, zest, and spice with mid-palate density and minerality.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 15-17°C in a Burgundy glass; decant 30-60 minutes. Drink from 2026-2034 as rustic elements integrate; pairs with roast poultry, duck, game birds, or mushroom dishes.
