From Clau de Nell in France's Anjou subregion, the Cabernet Franc 2022 is a refined 100% Cabernet Franc sourced from 45-year-old vines on a 5-hectare parcel of silty-clay soils with sandstone grit and red flint over tuffeau limestone, imparting vibrant structure and minerality. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2022 vintage undergo natural fermentation in the domaine's historic cellars, followed by aging in neutral vessels to preserve purity and terroir expression. As a biodynamic estate founded over a century ago and revitalized by Anne-Claude Leflaive in 2008, this Demeter-certified production yields a ruby wine with garnet edges and remarkable elegance.
Tasting Notes An elegant, savory red with vibrant red berries and mineral freshness, reflecting Anjou's tuffeau limestone terroir. The nose reveals flinty tar, fresh berries, peppercorn funk, and hints of juniper and damp earth. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and linear, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and flavors of red raspberry, black plum, and wet stone, leading to a pristine, juicy finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2022 Cabernet Franc earned 93 points from James Suckling for its vivid succulence and authentic savory touch.
Serving and Cellaring Serve at 14-16°C with 30-45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with grilled lamb, charcuterie, or mushroom dishes. Enjoy now through 2035, developing greater earthy and spice nuances over time.
