From Château L'If in Bordeaux's Saint-Émilion on the Right Bank, the Collines de L'If 2018 is a second wine refined blend of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc sourced from the rolling slopes of the estate's 8-hectare clay-limestone plateau vineyards next to Château Troplong Mondot and Château Pavie-Macquin. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2018 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 12-16 months' aging in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one-year-old) to enhance integration and finesse. Purchased by Jacques Thienpont in 2010 and run by Cyrille Thienpont, this production yields a deep ruby wine with garnet edges and poised intensity.

Tasting Notes A fine, fresh Saint-Émilion with notes of autumn fruits, licorice, and spices, offering convivial richness, attractive balance between fruit and soil, and a long, appetizing red fruit finish. The nose offers detailed, vivacious black fruit mixed with black olive and licorice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of plum, spice, and mineral earthiness, leading to a long, crisp finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2018 Collines de L'If earned 92 points from Wine Advocate for its enticing licorice scents, detailed vivaciousness, and splendid Saint-Émilion elegance.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with grilled beef, roasted lamb, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2030, developing greater leather and earthy nuances over time.
