Bordeaux Sophistication Meets High-Altitude Mendoza Power

Crafted by the legendary Cuvelier family—owners of the iconic Saint-Julien Second Growth Château Léoville Classé (Léoville Poyferré)—this flagship red blend represents the ultimate cross-continental masterwork. Affectionately called the "Argentine cousin of Léoville Poyferré," the magnificent 2019 vintage frames the opulent power of Uco Valley Malbec inside a classic, highly tailored French chassis. It fills the glass with a perfumed, deeply sophisticated bouquet of dark blackberries, black cherries, sweet tobacco leaf, and exotic spice box, wrapping a full-bodied, polished palate in firm, velvety tannins that have evolved beautifully over extended bottle maturation.

Expert Tasting Notes & Estate Reputation

  • 95 Points – James Suckling: "This has a perfumed and complex nose of sandalwood, tobacco, blackberries, black cherries, violets and spice box. Polished and deep, with a full body and firm, fine-grained tannins. Long and classy. Keeps going. Drink from 2024."
  • The Clones of Saint-Julien in Vista Flores: Founded in 1998 by the Cuvelier family of Bordeaux fame, Bodega Cuvelier Los Andes operates with an elite winemaking lineage under the watchful eye of super-consultant Michel Rolland. Situated in the prestigious Clos de los Siete macro-project in the Uco Valley, their vines enjoy high-altitude intensity balanced by gravelly, well-draining soils. By handling their old-world inspired blend with complete barrel fermentation, the estate coaxes a deeply intellectual, texturally rich Grand Vin that drinks like top-tier Bordeaux with an authentic Andean heartbeat.

Highlights

  • The "First Label" flagship assembly composed of 60% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, and 2% Petit Verdot.
  • Sourced entirely from premium estate vineyards in Vista Flores, Uco Valley, growing at an elevated 1,000 meters above sea level on sandy-clay soils with massive gravel density.
  • Fermented elegantly directly inside French oak barrels, followed by 18 months of maturation in fine wood casks (50% brand-new).

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Opaque, dense garnet-red with a brilliant, deep purple sheen.
  • Nose: Perfumed, aristocratic, and multi-layered, showing concentrated aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and mulberry fruit confit, seamlessly complexed by sweet tobacco leaf, sandalwood, cedar wood, violet petals, and a rich trace of festive spice box.
  • Palate: Dry, full-bodied, and deeply textured. Concentrated waves of dark forest fruits and cocoa paste saturate the mid-palate, driven by a contained, mild freshness that keeps the power graceful. The mouthfeel is incredibly deep and polished, heavily anchored by firm, fine-grained, and velvety tannins that yield subtle tertiary elements of cedar and leather on an exceptionally long finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at room temperature between 16–18°C. A controlled cool environment frames its 15.5% ABV beautifully, preserving its polished, athletic focus.
  • Decanting: As a perfectly cellared 2019 vintage approaching its ideal prime drinking window, a 45-to-60 minute decant is highly recommended to let the deep sandalwood and tobacco aromatics unfurl completely. Built to cellar beautifully through 2035–2040.
  • Western Pairing: Prime dry-aged ribeye steaks with truffle butter, roasted rack of venison, slow-braised wild boar shanks, or roasted quail with truffles.
  • Asian Pairing: 柱侯牛腩煲 (Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon Pot), 紅燒乳鴿 (Braised Roasted Pigeon), or Sautéed Lamb with Scallions (蔥爆羊肉).
