Ripe Stone Fruit, Toasted Brioche, Crushed Limestone, and Grand Cru Power

The 2022 David Moret Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a majestic, powerfully built Chardonnay from one of Burgundy’s most revered terroirs. It displays opulent aromas of ripe yellow peaches, Meyer lemon curd, toasted hazelnuts, white blossoms, and warm pastry. Full-bodied and velvety, it delivers monumental fruit concentration seamlessly countered by vibrant limestone acidity, concluding on a persistent, savory, and mineral-saturated finish.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay sourced from Bâtard-Montrachet, one of the world's most acclaimed Grand Cru vineyards situated on the gentle eastern slopes shared between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet.
  • Grown on deep, brown clay-limestone soils rich in marl, which historically produce Chardonnays with formidable shoulder width, dense texture, and remarkable ageability.
  • Crafted by David Moret, a renowned boutique micro-négociant based in Beaune celebrated for his artisanal focus, meticulous parcel selection, and mastery of Côte de Beaune white wines.
  • Aged for approximately 12 to 15 months in select French oak barrels (around 40–50% new oak), followed by resting in stainless steel to harmonize oak richness, tension, and pure fruit vitality.
  • From the warm, concentrated, yet harmonious 2022 Burgundy harvest; delivers astonishing power today with the structure to develop in the cellar through 2038+.

Tasting Notes

Luminous, deep golden yellow with glistening emerald flashes, it opens with commanding aromas of ripe yellow peaches, Meyer lemon curd, and golden apples, intertwined with white acacia blossom, crushed limestone, toasted hazelnuts, and warm brioche. The palate is full-bodied, opulent, and dense, coating the palate in layered stone fruit and subtle pastry cream before being lifted by a firm core of limestone acidity, culminating in a monumental, echoing, and mouth-watering saline mineral finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 12–14°C in generous Grand Cru white Burgundy stemware.
  • Decanting: Decant for 30 to 45 minutes prior to serving to allow its dense Grand Cru architecture, rich stone fruit, and nuanced oak spices to fully unfurl; pairs magnificently with butter-poached lobster, grilled turbot with hollandaise, roasted veal sweetbreads, or aged Comté. Optimal drinking window 2026 through 2038+.
