Green Apple, White Flowers, Crushed Flint, and Majestic Grand Cru Tension

The 2024 David Moret Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is an electric, towering Chardonnay from the steep limestone slopes of the Corton hill. It displays crystalline aromas of crisp green apples, Meyer lemon zest, white blossoms, crushed flint, and delicate toasted brioche. Full-bodied yet laser-focused, it matches dense concentration with racy mineral acidity, finishing incredibly long, saline, and powerful.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay sourced from Corton-Charlemagne, one of Burgundy's greatest white Grand Crus crowning the iconic Montagne de Corton.
  • Grown on steep, high-altitude slopes of pale Jurassic limestone and light marl soils, yielding formidable mineral drive, crystalline purity, and legendary longevity.
  • Produced by David Moret, the renowned Beaune-based artisan micro-négociant celebrated for his precise elevage and laser-like focus on Côte de Beaune terroirs.
  • Matured for approximately 14 to 16 months in select French oak barrels (around 35–40% new oak) followed by stainless steel settling to harmonize oak tannins with piercing acidity.
  • From the vibrant, classically proportioned 2024 Burgundy vintage; possesses tremendous architecture, energy, and cellar potential extending through 2038+.

Tasting Notes

Pale, crystalline gold with vivid emerald reflections, it opens with commanding aromas of Granny Smith apples, white orchard peach, and lemon oil, interwoven with white blossoms, gunflint, wet limestone, and a subtle touch of toasted pastry. The palate is full-bodied, structured, and razor-sharp, delivering concentrated stone fruit and citrus across a surging spine of electric limestone acidity, finishing taut, salivating, and powerfully mineral-driven.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 11–13°C in generous Grand Cru white Burgundy stemware.
  • Decanting: Decant for 30 to 45 minutes prior to serving to allow its muscular limestone framework and refined aromatics to unfold; pairs exquisitely with butter-poached lobster, roast turbot, seared scallops, or aged Comté. Optimal drinking window 2027 through 2038+.
