From Dog Point Vineyard in New Zealand’s Marlborough region, the Chardonnay 2023 is a refined 100% Chardonnay sourced from low-yielding, hand-picked Mendoza and B95 clones (2/3 Mendoza, 1/3 B95) in the estate's home vineyard, on clay-loam soils influenced by cooling sea breezes that foster intensity and balance. Vines date back to 1984 with yields at 2.5 tonnes/ha; fruit is whole-bunch pressed and transferred directly to French oak barrels (10% new) for indigenous primary and secondary malolactic fermentations over 18 months, bottled without fining and with minimal filtration. As New Zealand's largest certified organic vineyard and a family-owned estate since 2002, this production yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and remarkable tension.
Tasting Notes An elegant, tightly coiled white with mineral vibrancy and floral precision, reflecting Marlborough's coastal terroir. The nose reveals white flowers, crushed shells, wet chalk, and white pepper. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and focused, with vibrant acidity, fine texture, and flavors of saline minerality and light stone fruit, leading to a precise, unfolding finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2023 Dog Point Vineyard Chardonnay earned 95 points from The Real Review for its tightly coiled minerality and finesse.
Serving and Cellaring Serve at 10-12°C with 20-30 minutes of chilling to accentuate aromas. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with scallops, white fish, poultry, or BBQ pork. Enjoy now through 2036, during which it will develop enhanced nutty and honeyed layers.
