Critical Recognition
- 89 - 92 Points - Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy): This vineyard survived the frost relatively well. Solid and quite bright crimson. Bright dense fruit, more raspberry, fills the middle of the palate nicely, good acidity and proper persistence. Not the finest vintage of course but very creditable. Lifted finish with some volume. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted Oct 2022 by Jasper Morris MW.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir harvested from "Les Brouillards," a distinguished Premier Cru climat located in the northern sector of Volnay near the boundary with Pommard.
- Planted on deep, clay-limestone soils with a fine gravel component, yielding Volnay's hallmark floral perfume, supple mid-palate texture, and refined mineral tension.
- Crafted by Domaine Glantenay, the esteemed Volnay-based family estate renowned for delicate extractions that highlight pure village elegance.
- Aged for approximately 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels (around 25–30% new oak) to gently soften the structure while preserving transparent primary red fruit.
- From the classically cool, energetic 2021 Burgundy harvest; offers enticing aromatic lift today alongside the stamina to cellar gracefully through 2035+.
Tasting Notes
Luminous, translucent ruby with violet glints, it opens with an airy bouquet of wild strawberries, cranberries, and fresh red cherries, underscored by crushed peonies, dried rose petals, and a touch of subtle baking spice. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and seamless, delivering bright red fruit over a foundation of fine-grained, supple tannins and mouth-watering limestone acidity, concluding on a clean, lingering, and chalky-mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 14–16°C in generous Pinot Noir stemware.
- Decanting: Best enjoyed with 20 to 30 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass to allow its floral perfume and red berry purity to fully expand; pairs exquisitely with roasted duck breast, veal tenderloin, grilled quail, or mild semi-firm cheeses. Optimal drinking window now through 2035+.
