Critical Recognition
- 90 - 93 Points (Outstanding) - Allen Meadows (Burghound): The perfumed essence of red cherry, spice and rose petal serve as an elegant introduction to the less concentrated and powerful, though decidedly finer, flavors that conclude in a racy, inviting and balanced finale. This is one of those wines that you just feel like drinking and it is very Volnay in style.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir harvested from "Les Brouillards," a classic Premier Cru climat nestled in the northern sector of Volnay near the boundary with Pommard.
- Grown on deep, clay-limestone soils intermixed with fine gravel, combining Volnay’s hallmark floral perfume and finesse with a subtle touch of Pommard mid-palate substance.
- Crafted by Domaine Glantenay, the esteemed Volnay-based family estate renowned for delicate extractions and parcel-by-parcel precision.
- Aged for approximately 15 to 18 months in select French oak barrels (around 25–30% new oak) to polish the structure while safeguarding pure primary red fruit.
- From the expressive, generous 2023 Burgundy harvest; offers irresistible immediate appeal alongside the stamina to cellar gracefully through 2035+.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby with violet reflections, it opens with an expressive bouquet of wild strawberries, red cherries, and raspberry liqueur, interwoven with crushed violets, dried rose petals, and subtle baking spices. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and seamless, presenting juicy red berry fruit supported by fine-grained, cashmere tannins and vibrant limestone acidity, concluding on a clean, lingering, and chalky-mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 14–16°C in generous Pinot Noir stemware.
- Decanting: Best enjoyed with 20 to 30 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass to allow its floral perfume and red berry core to unfurl; pairs exquisitely with roasted duck breast, milk-fed veal, squab, or mild semi-firm cheeses. Optimal drinking window now through 2035+.
