Critical Recognition
- 89 - 92 Points - Allen Meadows (Burghound): This is also quite ripe yet not flat with its nose of menthol, red berry liqueur and warm earth. The suave, delicious and seductively textured flavors are not especially dense but they do offer reasonably good depth and persistence on the firm but not particularly austere finale.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir harvested from "Les Santenots," an iconic Premier Cru climat geographically situated in Meursault but celebrated for producing benchmark red wines under the Volnay-Santenots appellation.
- Planted on deep, iron-tinted red-clay and limestone soils over hard Bathonian bedrock, giving Santenots its distinctive mid-palate richness, deeper fruit profile, and velvety structure.
- Crafted by Domaine Glantenay, using gentle extraction and low-intervention winemaking to capture both Volnay’s aromatic elegance and Santenots’ generous flesh.
- Aged for approximately 15 to 18 months in select French oak barrels (around 25–30% new oak) to gently soften the tannins while safeguarding pure fruit clarity.
- From the warm, concentrated, and beautifully balanced 2022 Burgundy harvest; delivers alluring approachability today with the stamina to age gracefully through 2036+.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby with shimmering violet glints, it opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe black cherries, dark plum, and wild raspberries, accented by crushed violets, warm earth, and delicate sweet baking spices. The palate is medium-bodied, velvety, and expansive, carrying succulent dark berry fruit over a foundation of fine-grained cashmere tannins and balanced acidity, concluding on a persistent, mouth-watering, and chalky-mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 14–16°C in generous Pinot Noir stemware.
- Decanting: Best enjoyed with 20 to 30 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass to allow its dark fruit core and floral aromatics to unfold; pairs exquisitely with roasted duck breast, milk-fed veal, grilled squab, or mild semi-firm cheeses. Optimal drinking window now through 2036+.
