Critical Recognition
- 90 - 93 Points (Oustanding) - Allen Meadows (Burghound): A ripe, spicy and distinctly earthy nose speaks mostly of the essence of red currant. The succulent, palate soaking and sappy medium-bodied flavors display impressive power on the very much built-to-age finale. I would add that while this will easily age for a decade plus, it's not so compact that it couldn't be reasonably approached after only 5 to 7 years.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir harvested from "Les Santenots," an iconic Premier Cru terroir legally situated within Meursault but entitled to the Volnay-Santenots appellation for red wines.
- Planted on deep, iron-tinted clay-limestone soils over hard Bathonian bedrock, imparting Santenots' hallmark mid-palate generosity, darker fruit profile, and refined structural depth.
- Crafted by Domaine Glantenay, blending generations of familial viticultural savoir-faire with gentle extractions to showcase transparent terroir typicity.
- Aged for approximately 15 to 18 months in select French oak barrels (around 25–30% new oak) to seamlessly integrate structure while preserving primary fruit vibrancy.
- From the balanced, expressive 2023 Burgundy harvest; offers enticing aromatic clarity today alongside the stamina to cellar gracefully through 2036+.
Tasting Notes
Bright, translucent ruby with vivid violet reflections, it opens with an alluring bouquet of ripe dark cherries, wild raspberries, and cranberries, accented by crushed violets, dried rose petals, and subtle baking spices. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and seamless, presenting juicy red and dark fruit supported by fine-grained cashmere tannins and vibrant limestone acidity, concluding on a clean, lingering, and chalky-mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 14–16°C in generous Pinot Noir stemware.
- Decanting: Best enjoyed with 20 to 30 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass to allow its floral perfume and red berry core to unfurl; pairs exquisitely with roasted duck breast, milk-fed veal, grilled squab, or mild semi-firm cheeses. Optimal drinking window now through 2036+.
