Terroir, History & Acclaim
- 91–93 Points - Allen Meadows (Burghound): A more reticent nose is composed more from the red side of the fruit spectrum along with less spice and more earth character. The succulent but decidedly punchy medium weight flavors also possess an attractive mouthfeel while displaying excellent length on the youthfully austere finale. This is firm and compact but not so much so that it couldn't be reasonably approached after only 5 to 7 years.
- The "Musigni" Climat within Clos de Vougeot: The domaine owns a prime 1.53-hectare parcel situated at the very top of Clos de Vougeot along the northern wall, directly bordering Chambolle-Musigny’s Grand Cru Le Musigny. The shallow, well-draining soils of Bajocian limestone scree and gravel produce the most aromatic, elegant, and finely textured fruit within the entire 50-hectare walled enclosure.
- The Signature Gros Frère Style: Crafted in Vosne-Romanée with Vincent Gros directing viticulture and elevage. The winemaking emphasizes plush opulence, ripe phenolic extraction, and maturation in 100% new French oak barriques, yielding a Grand Cru that combines Vougeot's native structural depth with velvety mid-palate luxury.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the top-tier "Musigni" parcel adjoining Grand Cru Le Musigny.
- A bold, age-worthy 2023 Grand Cru; prime drinking window 2033 through 2050+.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with pure, commanding aromas of black cherries, poached plums, and wild cassis, enveloped by dried violet petals, roasted coffee bean, vanilla bean, and sweet baking spice. The palate is medium-bodied, broad, and velvety, delivering immense core fruit density supported by architectural, fine-grained tannins and balancing acidity, concluding with an expansive, muscular, and lingering finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 15–17°C in large Burgundy stems.
- Decanting: Decant for 1.5 to 2 hours if opening young to allow the oak spice and deep fruit to harmonize. Best cellared until 2033, drinking through 2050+.
