Terroir & History
- A Rare Côte de Nuits Treat: Domaine Humbert Frères, managed by the dynamic brothers Emmanuel and Frédéric Humbert, is iconic for their muscular, old-vine Gevrey-Chambertins. Their Bourgogne Blanc is produced in extremely limited quantities from parcels situated in the Côte de Nuits, bringing a distinct structure, density, and roundness to the glass that reflects their masterful red wine pedigree.
- The Solar 2020 Vintage: The highly concentrated 2020 vintage provided immaculate conditions for Chardonnay, yielding grapes of intense sugar and phenolic ripeness while maintaining brilliant natural acidity. Following the classic family style, this white Burgundy is fermented and matured in French oak barrels, balancing the generous body of the vintage with gorgeous toast, spice, and structure.
Highlights
- 100% Chardonnay crafted in micro-quantities by the iconic Gevrey-Chambertin specialists, Humbert Frères.
- The hot, highly concentrated 2020 vintage delivers superb fruit depth, structure, and early-drinking pleasure.
- A beautifully textured, barrel-aged white Burgundy that punches far above its regional "Bourgogne" classification.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Bright golden-yellow core with clear, brilliant straw reflections.
- Nose: Generous, fragrant, and inviting. It opens with ripe golden apple, yellow pear, and lemon curd, layered beautifully with toasted hazelnuts, vanilla blossoms, and an underlying hint of wet stones.
- Palate: Bone-dry, medium-to-full-bodied, and deeply satisfying. The entry is broad and fleshy, delivering a wave of ripe orchard fruits and subtle oak spices across the mid-palate. This richness is effortlessly balanced by a fresh spine of vibrant, mineral-driven acidity, culminating in a clean, persistent, and clean-cut finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 11–13°C. Avoid serving ice-cold, as the rich, oak-spiced fruit profile and generous concentration need a light chill to fully breathe and open up.
- Decanting: A brief 20-minute decant or simply pouring it into large Burgundy bowls will let the subtle oak integration shine. It is drinking spectacularly well today but can comfortably cellar through 2030.
- Western Pairing: Roasted chicken with cream sauce, garlic-herb butter lobster tails, grilled pork chops, or a rich seafood chowder.
- Asian Pairing: Cantonese roasted goose, wok-fried prawns with salted egg yolk, or steamed chicken with ginger scallion sauce.
