Elio Altare Dolcetto d’Alba 2024 is a vibrant, modern Dolcetto from calcareous soils in La Morra, showing an intense violet color and pure aromas of violets and black cherry. Dry but soft on the palate with delicate tannins and juicy, medium‑bodied cherry fruit, it is an uncomplicated, everyday red that also shines slightly chilled alongside pasta and simple countryside cooking. Serve at 14–16°C; enjoy now through 2027 for maximum freshness.

The 2024 Dolcetto d’Alba comes from 20–40‑year‑old vines planted on calcareous sandy soils with north‑eastern exposure around La Morra in the Barolo zone, giving naturally vibrant acidity and fragrant fruit. True to Elio Altare’s “everyday wine” vision, it is crafted as a fresh, pure expression of Dolcetto without oak influence, intended to be drunk young and generously at the table.

Fermentation and a brief 2–3‑day maceration take place in rotary or stainless‑steel fermenters at controlled temperature, followed by about 10 months’ maturation in stainless steel with no filtration, preserving primary fruit and a crunchy, vivid profile. Annual production is around 1,500–1,650 cases, emphasizing precision and consistency rather than volume.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Intense violet and black‑cherry aromas with notes of blackberry, dark plum and a touch of earth and spice.

  • Palate: Dry but soft and silky, with medium body, full cherry and black‑cherry flavour, fine, gentle tannins and lively freshness that makes it highly drinkable.

  • Finish: Juicy, clean and persistent, echoing cherry fruit, violet and a hint of ground black pepper; particularly charming when served slightly chilled.

Awards and Accolades
There is not yet a publicly available numeric score and full tasting note from major critics specifically for the 2024 Dolcetto d’Alba. For context, recent previous vintages (2021–2023) have consistently received 90 points from both Vinous and Wine Spectator, praised as “super‑classic” Dolcetto with punchy red‑cherry/plum fruit, juicy flavour and bright cherry aromas and flavours in a silky, graceful frame; these reviews refer to earlier vintages, not 2024.

Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 14–16°C, and consider a light chill in warmer weather to highlight the wine’s floral and cherry notes and crispness. Ideal pairings include tajarin or other egg pastas with ragù, pizza, salumi, grilled sausages and simple roast chicken, and the wine is best enjoyed young, within about 2–3 years of the vintage, though it can hold comfortably through 2027.
