Long Description

From Gaja's Pieve Santa Restituta estate in Italy’s Montalcino, the Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is a refined 100% Sangiovese sourced from two vineyards—Santo Pietro (southwest exposure) and Sugarille (south exposure)—on clay-limestone and galestro soils at 350-420 meters elevation that impart concentration and elegance. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2019 vintage—marked by warm days and cool nights yielding structured yet vibrant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 24 months' aging in French oak barriques and large Slavonian oak casks to foster integration and depth. Acquired by Angelo Gaja in 1994, this production yields a deep garnet wine with orange reflections and profound harmony.

Tasting Notes A powerful yet refined Brunello with dark cherries, blackberries, and violets, showing firm tannins, bright acidity, and a long, mineral finish driven by Montalcino's clay-limestone soils. The nose reveals black cherry, licorice, violet, and hints of graphite, tobacco, and balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet poised, with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and flavors of dark plum, mineral earthiness, and subtle oak, leading to a long, persistent finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino earned 96 points from James Suckling for its seamless texture and exceptional aging potential.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted game, truffle-infused dishes, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2045, developing profound leather and earthy complexities over time.
