From Helan Qingxue Vineyard in China's Ningxia, the Jia Bei Lan Baby Feet Pinot Noir 2018 is a refined 100% Pinot Noir sourced from 17-year-old vines on the estate's demonstration vineyard at 1,138 meters elevation on the eastern slopes of Helan Mountain, featuring gravelly and loamy soils that impart freshness and minerality. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2018 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet elegant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 14 months' aging in 20% new French oak to enhance texture and complexity. As an experimental expression from the Ningxia Second Growth winery founded in 2005 with consultant Professor Li Demei, this limited-release (1,300 bottles) yields a translucent ruby wine with vibrant intensity and poised elegance.

Tasting Notes A rich yet fresh Pinot with roses, herbs, and hints of lychee freshness. Strawberries and a stemmy undertone, too. Medium-bodied with an integral, solid mid-palate, enveloped by structured tannins. Cohesive with a fresh, herbal finish, but nothing green. Quite an intellectual rendition of Ningxia Pinot with good depth. The nose reveals strawberry, rose petal, and hints of lychee and herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and poised, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of dark cherry, licorice, and subtle graphite minerality, leading to a long, silky finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2018 Baby Feet Pinot Noir earned 94 points from James Suckling for its rich freshness and structured cohesion.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 14-16°C with 30-45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with roasted poultry, mushroom risotto, or charcuterie. Enjoy now through 2030, developing greater earthy and silky nuances over time.
