Critical Recognition
- 90 Points - James Suckling: Aromas of red plums, dark cherries, toasted bread and nutmeg. Medium body with sleek tannins and fresh acidity. Succulent and fresh with plenty of redcurrant character on the palate and a lively finish. Drink now.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir harvested from estate parcels situated within the commune boundaries of Morey-Saint-Denis (rather than Gamay blends often found in regional Coteaux Bourguignons).
- Planted on limestone and clay soils that give the wine an authentic Côte de Nuits mineral backbone and ethereal floral lift.
- Crafted by Domaine Henri Jouan (under Philippe Jouan), applying the same traditional, non-interventionist winemaking and gentle extraction used for their Grand Crus.
- Aged for approximately 12 months in neutral older French oak casks with little to no new oak to preserve vibrant fruit purity and immediate drinkability.
- From the solar and generous 2018 Burgundy harvest; displays radiant, succulent red fruit that is drinking beautifully now with the stamina to keep through 2028+.
Tasting Notes
Bright, translucent ruby with crimson glints, it opens with charming, lifted aromas of wild strawberries, fresh red cherries, and cranberries, underscored by dried rose petals, violets, and a gentle touch of sous-bois. On the palate, it is light-to-medium-bodied, vibrant, and supple, pairing succulent red fruit with fine, powdery tannins and refreshing acidity, concluding on a clean, savory, and delicately mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly chilled at 13–15°C in standard Burgundy stemware.
- Decanting: Best enjoyed straight from the bottle or with 10 to 15 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass; pairs perfectly with roasted poultry, charcuterie boards, grilled pork tenderloin, or mild soft cheeses. Optimal drinking window now through 2028+.
