Lychee, Rosewater, Candied Citrus, and Signature Alsace Freshness

The 2024 Famille Hugel "Classic" Gewurztraminer is a fragrant, textbook Alsace aromatic white. Grown on hillside clay-limestone soils around Riquewihr, it opens with pure aromas of fresh lychee, rose petals, passion fruit, and candied ginger. Medium-to-full-bodied and supple, it wraps juicy tropical fruit around fine phenolic texture and crisp acidity, finishing clean, appetizingly dry, and delicately spiced.

Highlights

  • 100% Gewurztraminer harvested from mature vines averaging 30 years of age across prime hillside parcels in Riquewihr and surrounding communes.
  • Grown on diverse clay, limestone, and marly soils, giving the wine solid physiological depth, balancing mineral structure, and distinct phenolic grip.
  • Produced by Famille Hugel, historic winegrowers in Riquewihr since 1639, practicing meticulous gravity-fed winemaking across thirteen generations.
  • Vinified without oak flavoring and strictly without malolactic fermentation to highlight pristine primary floral perfume and brisk natural freshness.
  • From the expressive, finely balanced 2024 Alsace harvest; highly enjoyable now with cellar longevity through 2032+.

Tasting Notes

Pale golden-straw with bright green highlights, it opens with an exuberant, signature aromatic bouquet of fresh lychee, passion fruit, and ripe white peach, intertwined with damask rosewater, candied orange peel, fresh ginger, and cardamom. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, textural, and beautifully balanced, framing rich exotic fruit against fine phenolic structure and a crisp, refreshing spine of acidity, concluding on a long, dry, and delightfully spicy finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 9–11°C in standard white wine or universal tulip-shaped glassware.
  • Decanting: Best enjoyed directly from the bottle; brief aeration in the glass allows its multi-layered perfumes and ginger spices to fully express themselves. Peak drinking window now through 2032+.
