Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 90–92 pts
  • 90–92 Points - Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy): The crop has been matured in 3 x 228 and 1 x 350 litre barrels, the latter one year old. A palish crimson colour. The nose is really perfumed, this is a fine discreet Beaune with nonetheless a bit of fruit weight beneath. Pure and pretty with attractive cherry notes. Good but not trenchant acidity. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted Oct 2022 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from "Les Avaux," an amphitheater-shaped Premier Cru climat situated in the southern half of the Beaune appellation, famed for yielding supple and aromatic red wines.
  • Planted on gravelly clay-limestone soils with excellent natural drainage, lending the cuvée a quintessential balance of generous red fruit and refined chalky grip.
  • Crafted by micro-négociant Jane Eyre, known for her gentle, non-interventionist approach—using judicious whole-cluster fermentation and low extraction to let the vintage and site sing.
  • Aged for approximately 12 to 14 months in fine French oak barrels with restrained new wood (~15–20%), preserving transparency and lifted floral aromatics.
  • From the cool, classically proportioned 2021 Burgundy harvest; presents delightful tensile energy and crystalline fruit today, with the structure to age effortlessly through 2033+.

Tasting Notes

Bright, translucent ruby with crimson highlights, it opens with an aromatic, perfumed bouquet of wild red cherries, cranberries, and rosehips, layered with crushed violets, white tea, and subtle forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, linear, and sinuous, delivering vibrant red berry fruit across a bed of fine-grained, powdery tannins and mouth-watering limestone acidity, concluding on a persistent, delicately spiced, and mineral-etched finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve cellar-cool at 14–16°C in Burgundy balloon stemware.
  • Decanting: Best enjoyed with 20 to 30 minutes of gentle aeration in the glass to allow its delicate red fruit and floral perfume to fully expand; pairs beautifully with roast pigeon, duck breast with cranberry compote, veal chops with wild mushrooms, or mature Comté. Optimal drinking window now through 2033+.
