Wild Strawberries, Spring Flowers, Silky Tannins, and Fragrant Charm

The 2023 Jane Eyre Côte de Nuits-Villages is a delicate, highly aromatic Pinot Noir that prioritizes elegance over sheer power. Sourced from the southern villages of Comblanchien and Corgoloin, it offers a pretty, lifted bouquet of wild strawberries, red cherries, and spring florals. Light-to-medium-bodied and supple, it delivers juicy red summer fruit over fine, silky tannins, finishing with lovely freshness and surprising persistence.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 88 pts
  • 88 Points - Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy): A fresh purple of no great concentration. A very pretty fragrant light floral pinot nose. If you want something light and flavoursome spring and early summer, this will do the trick. Quite a persistent finish despite the lesser fruit weight. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Dec 2024 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from two dedicated parcels in the southern Côte de Nuits communes of Comblanchien and Corgoloin, both owned by the same grower.
  • For the 2023 vintage, winemaker Jane Eyre utilized approximately 50% whole clusters during fermentation, seeking to enhance the wine's aromatic lift, floral perfume, and structural freshness.
  • Matured predominantly in neutral 300-liter French oak barrels, with the careful addition of one new 500-liter barrel to impart subtle spice and cedar nuances without overwhelming the delicate fruit.
  • The 2023 expression leans into a lighter, more ethereal style of Burgundy—prioritizing transparency, immediate drinkability, and charm over dense extraction.
  • A delightfully approachable vintage that is perfect for early enjoyment; drinks beautifully now and will provide immense pleasure through 2029.

Tasting Notes

Pale garnet to fresh purple in the glass. The nose is wonderfully aromatic and lifted, offering pretty scents of wild strawberries, crisp red cherries, and vivid spring florals, accented by delicate hints of cedar and warm baking spice. On the palate, it is light-to-medium-bodied and highly approachable, delivering a core of juicy red summer fruit framed by silky, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity, concluding on a clean, fragrant, and surprisingly persistent finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly chilled at 14–15°C in standard Burgundy stemware to emphasize its delicate aromatics.
  • Decanting: Pop and pour, or allow just 10 to 15 minutes of air in the glass. An excellent pairing for herb-roasted chicken, charcuterie boards, grilled salmon, or seared tuna. Optimal drinking window now through 2029.
